Double Red Blood Cell Donation
A double red blood cell donation allows you to give two units of red blood cells in one visit. This donation is collected using a specialized process called apheresis that safely returns your plasma, platelets, and saline back to you while collecting only red blood cells.
Red blood cells carry oxygen throughout the body and are critical for patients experiencing trauma, undergoing surgery, or living with conditions such as anemia.
For donors with O- blood, double reds can help a premature and critically ill newborn gain strength their bodies can’t yet provide. NICU teams rely on O- donors to keep their smallest patients alive.
